Does

Care of does 1 year and up.

Things a dry doe must have
Things a doe in milk must have will be underlined
Things both need will be bolded.
  • Fresh water at all times.
  • High quality hay( we feed alfalfa free choice
  • High protein grain (we feed blue seal dairy goat i believe it is 20%)
  • up to date on cd/t, and bo-se shots.
  • Kept on regular worming shedule.

The amount of grain depends on age. If the doe is under 1 year, she has grain accessible at all times. Yearlings are fed 2x a day. I give all 7 does 4 pounds a day. (2 lbs a feeding) Does in milk are fed in the pen, unless i am using milk for my own consumption. Otherwise they are only fed on the milk stand. When milk is being given to kids they get fed in pen, and as much as they can eat in 15-20 mins. 2x a day.

Hay should be available at all times. Our does also have access to pasture 24/7. If you have pasture it can really cut back on your hay expenses. Gestation is generally 145-155 days. With most does (depending on breed and individual doe) will kid around 150. These are the methods we have found most helpful. Does are given a booster shot of CD/T 4 weeks before kidding (this helps give some immunity to the kids) During show season and when they are kids they are given either Calf-Manna or Sunshine Plus available through our local blue seal dealer.

We use Kay's Feed & Supplies in Delmar, DE.
