Kids

Within 2 days of birth our kids get:
  • 1/4-1/2 cc of BO-SE.
  • 1-2 cc's of Spectam.
  • A small handful of hay to encourage them to start eating.
  • At around 3 days we give them a small amount of wormer to kill any worms, and a very small amount of albon.

Within 2 weeks of birth kids are:

  • Disbudded.
  • Start having access to grain.
  • Given first round of CD/T Tetanus TOXOID.

Within 4 weeks kids:
Are eating hay/grain. At this age we give most buyers the opportunity to take their baby goat home to finish the weaning. We wean at around 3-4 months of age. They also get their first hoof trimming around this age. They are also given first full treatment of Albon for coccidiosis. We are in a heavy cocci area, and believe this should be started at a young age. Please see dosage page. We also worm with ivermectin at this age.

At around 8 weeks:
  • Kids get 2nd round of CD/T shot.
  • Are wormed with strongid
  • Starting to be trained for showing.

We feed our kids Blue Seal Meat Goat Medicated 16%. Our goats really seem to like the taste of this. This is also medicated for coccidiosis. This is fed free choice until they are 6-12 mos old. It is then divided into 1-2 feedings a day. We feed the medicated grain until they are at least a year. We have found that our kids grow really well on this.

We feed hay free choice, they get grass hay until they are around 4-6 weeks old. Then the does/bucks are separated. The bucks are kept on this grass hay. While the does are switched over to a high quality legume such as alfalfa. This is what we feed our adult does as long as we have it available. They seem to waste much less of it, and eat it like its out of style!!
